If there is one thing that KL definitely is not short of then it is 5-star hotels. The Renaissance is one of my favourites where I regularly lodge myself because of the convenient location, the superb food, and the large pool.
The 5-star hotel is an impressive building with over 900 rooms located in two wings. Among the distinctive features are a spacious lobby, a really beautiful swimming pool, a fitness centre, a spa where you can get professional Balinese massages, and even a tennis court. The Renaissance houses 5 restaurants (one conveniently located directly by the pool) and bars. The main restaurant is the TEMPtationS which offers lush buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner but also serves à la carte.
May other hotels try to appear super hip, the Renaissance does not follow short-termed trends. It is stylish in a timeless elegance, with a spacious lobby, expansive halls, passageways and niches, high ceilings, wide stairs, impressive chandeliers and huge paintings and tapestries. In this sense, the name Renaissance is well chosen; as a hail to the good old times, although, of course, it provides every modern convenience.
The Renaissance is located within walking distance to both the famous Petronas Towers and the shopping and entertainment area Bukit Bintang. However, to avoid the merciless sun during daytime it is advisable to take the monorail from Bukit Nanas which is just across the street.
Having been there for the third time, this time I was lucky to get a room in the business class (usually I always book the standard room). The stylish and elegant rooms at the Hotel Renaissance Kuala Lumpur are equipped with room-high windows and cable TV and have marble bathrooms with a bathtub and shower. All rooms offer free WiFi. The west wing has recently been modernised very nicely, the works in the east wing will take a few months more. According to the management, guests will not be disturbed by the ongoing work as there are always three floors which separate the work in progress from the rented rooms.
Being the swimming pool maniac I am, I enjoyed the nicely shaped large pool which allows you to swim long lanes as well as to just splash around. There are also very comfy swimming mattresses in the pool to float around. Another positive aspect, there are always enough towels available without the need of superfluous bath towel lists and cards, without which so many hotels in this world obviously cannot get along. Plus, the pool is available from early morning till late at night.
If you want to stay in KL a couple of days for a shopping experience or to check out the many sightseeing attractions, the Renaissance should suit you well in any respect; definitely recommended.
